ABOUT US

THE ORGANIZATION

The National CARES Mentoring Movement is a pioneering, community-mobilization initiative that directly addresses the life-shredding effects of intergenerational Black poverty and lays a blueprint for community recovery. Anchored by a 58 U.S-city affiliate network, we are the nation’s recognized leader in the recruitment, training and engagement of African American mentors, and the only organization in the U.S. providing holistic programming on a national scale to advance Black children, growing up in poverty. Fayetteville-Raeford CARES Mentoring Movement is an affiliate of National CARES and has been serving the region since early 2019.

We know that no one organization alone can break the cycle of intergenerational Black poverty. Building meaningful collaborations is critical, and Fayetteville-Raeford CARES has established partnerships with several leading organizations—including the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.; Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.; Cumberland County Child Advocacy Center; Sister Circle Book Club; The Fayetteville Chapter of Jack and Jill of America; and Maggie’s Outreach Community Economic Development Center (Hoke County)—to create a community-wide effort to support Black families living in poverty. Through these partnerships, we have been able to recruit mentors to support children and develop our Mobile Mentoring Initiative, which brings mentoring and tutoring directly into communities.

Our mentoring and youth development program is offered to youth age 6 through 18.

MISSION & VISION

Our mission is to build and empower underserved and underprivileged youth in our community to maximize their potential and unlock the doors to success.

Our vision is to help shape a brighter future for our children through connections to a mentor who supports their academic, social and emotional growth, as well as provide support for the adults who parent, mentor and educate them.

OUR BELIEF

We are grounded in the certainty that a caring and committed adult can make a significant difference in the life of a young person. We believe that every young person in our region who is in need of a mentor should have one.

VALUES

In all that we do, we exemplify trust, mutual respect, confidentiality, community engagement, honesty and sensitivity.

Fayetteville-Raeford CARES Mentoring Movement fosters supportive relationships between mentors and mentees to transform the lives of our young. The generous support of volunteers and donors provides our children with endless opportunities to survive and thrive. We are volunteer driven and seek to develop innovative and effective strategies to grow our base of partnerships, donors, volunteers and advocates for the young people in our communities.
